And once a film moves me like that, I need to understand why–what gives it that power, what makes it unforgettable.
Beyond the films, I sometimes share other discoveries–fascinating books about this golden age and my visits to the places where these legends walked–for anyone who loves exploring beyond the screen.
From the First Frame: My Story
I didn’t choose classic movies; they chose me.
As part of my family culture, classic films were there before I could remember, finding their way into my mind and heart. I’m told The Wizard of Oz (1939) would play on repeat as I sat there as a mesmerized one-year-old, taking it all in.
Later, trips to the library with my mom became the highlight of my week. Each visit was an anticipated treasure hunt, where we would scour the shelves for titles we had not yet seen, and rediscover dear favorites.
I’d also find books about the making of these films. I remember lying on my bed poring over the pictures, delighting in production stories–captivated by this magical world.
This fascination was not just visual; the scores and melodies of these films equally captivated me, inspiring a lifelong love of music and arranging.
Those early experiences taught me exceptional films entertain, inspire, and continue to reveal themselves to us over time. That’s the magic I hope to share here.
